I have been reading alot about BI-solutions in different Kimball books aswell in Brian Larson´s “Deliviering Business Intelligence” but not until now when reading the book: “Microsoft Business Intelligence for Dummies” have I got a greater and fully concept about how I should work when doing my solution. I have some experience in agil methods with software development and the benefits it provides. Now everything make sense reading about the same approach in BI.
This will be my major angle of incidence going forward with my project.
I will also make a new list that represent what I am really doing so that I can compare after project ending.
Create a specification on what the most important information on the dashboard is.
- Look in the databases of my ERP to localize the table or tables with columns which are necessary to show the transactional data with SSRS.
- Create fact tables and dimensions in a star schema.
- Create a strategy for the ETL process (maybe this can be devided)
- Processing schedule
- Populate the tables
- Physical design (SSAS)
- Extract data to SSRS and make report. (Make subreports and dashboard)
